Cooper Invitational

Posnack RAMS 2017 Cooper Yeshiva H.S Invitational Tier II Champions!

The Tier II Championship featured The first time Cooper invitational attendee, Posnack Rams and the home town favorites Cooper Yeshiva Macs.  The game got off to a quick start with both teams scoring on either ends of the floor.  Neither team seemed to have an advantage until late in the first quarter when Cooper went up 19-18.

The second quarter saw Cooper jump out to a 28-20 on a three pointer and two jumpers by Cooper’s Ezra Cooper which allowed Cooper to jump out to a 28-20 lead.  That’s when Posnack fought back.

Posnack regained their footing after playing lock down defense and converting on fast break turnovers. Posnack placed themselves right behind Cooper as the half wound down to 2 minutes. Both teams traded shots at the line where the lead bounced between either team. The half ended with both teams tied, 35-35, setting up a exciting second half.

The Rams began the third quarter with back-to-back buckets and jumped out to a four point lead, their first of the game.  Cooper would fight back but they would never again regain the lead.  Fantastic defensive play from both squads resulted in the lowest scoring quarter for both teams.  Posnack held on to their lead as the third quarter came to an end.

The fourth quarter added back the excitement the fans have come to expect from both teams.  Simcha Osdoba put up a sideways shot of the glass giving the Cooper crowd the feeling they know well when it’s a close game in the 4th.  The sound from the crowd was deafening as the clock continued to count down.  Once again good defense on both sides led to turnovers and kept the score very close. Posnack’s Seth Wasserstrom hit a crucial three putting the Rams up by five and seemed to take the wind out of the Macs sails until Shlomo Bosin knocked a shot of his own bringing Cooper back to within three. As the clock trickled down to two minutes, the Macs, coming out of a timeout, turned up the heat and intensity as a free throw by Jared Weinstein and then a reverse layup by Simcha Osdoba tied the game up.  Posnack’s Bryce Daub drew a foul and converted on one of his free throws putting the Rams up by one.  The Macs would tie it up again on another free throw, but that would be the last time Cooper would score. The Macs fouled Seth Wasserstrom and he connected on both of his free throws giving posnack a two point lead. With one minute to go the Macs looked to score and were patient, passing the ball around and holding the ball before missing an outside shot with sixteen seconds left to go. The Macs would get one more opportunity but they could not convert.  The Posnack Rams defeat the Cooper Macs 49-47 to take home the 2017 Tier II Championship.  With this victory, Posnack Head Coach Keith Feit wins his first title with his new team.
