Northshore STARS fade away in loss to Milken WILDCATS, 67-33

In a Tier I matchup on Friday, the #1 Milken Wildcats faced off with the #9 North Shore Hebrew Academy Stars. As the game’s outset, Milken’s big men dominated the defensive paint and the Stars struggled to get off any shots other than sporadic long range 3’s. This allowed  Amitai Afenjar and Ethan Zimmerman to crash the boards for a combined 7 rebounds in just the first 4 minutes of the game. Michael Tsor of the Stars finally nailed one of his 3-pointers to kick-start the teams scoring. Zimmerman and Aaron Harouni each got back to back threes for six points from behind the arc for the Wildcats. Tsor ended the quarter scoring his second triple and accumulated all 10 points for Stars.

The 2nd quarter began with Tsor remaining hot, scoring a triple and a jumper putting the Stars neck and neck with the #1 Wildcats allowing them to begin to entertain thoughts of an upset. But Milken took over and started turning up the heat with a full court press forcing two turnovers before the point guard could even cross the half court line. The turnovers were both quickly served to Eli Elisha who cooked up a storm on the outside mark raining down 5 treys in the first half.  Tsor continued to battle for the Stars, and left his mark before halftime with an impressive and-1, but this had little effect on the 19 point lead for the Wildcats.

Milken continued to spread their lead out with smart ball movement and key inside passes to start the second half. Amitai Afenjar, sent the crowd roaring with an insane ally-oop, that despite a hard hit, gets the tip for two.  To keep up the passion of the crowd he follows it up with an additional hard two hard two handed jam. Northshore struggles to put a stop to Milken’s incessant scoring, but fails to make the slightest dent. The Stars finish the quarter with just four points.

For the final quarter, Milken plays their bench as their lead is up to 30 with 6 minutes remaining.  The Wildcats Lubow and Selter go hard in the paint dishing each other layups as Cooper gets some boards and continues to drill threes. For the Stars, Hakakian gets a couple open shots but nothing seems to falls. Hakakian finally gets one of his two free throws to go in, but the Stars are finished. Milken moves on to the semi finals with an dominant 67-33 win.
