A graduate of Yeshiva schools straight through college, Coach Jonathan Halpert was named a Daily News City All Star in 1965 and captain of the varsity MACS team in 1967. During his tenure as a YU MAC, Coach Halpert played for the late, legendary coach Bernard (Red) Sarachek. Coach Halpert was 27 years old when he was named head men’s basketball coach of Yeshiva’s varsity team. In 1997, Coach Halpert surpassed the victory total of legendary YU coach Bernard “Red” Sarachek. And, during the 2002-2003 season, Coach Halpert reached another milestone by, amassing 300 career victories. Twice he has been voted Coach of the Year by the College Basketball Officials Association and in 2009-10, Coach Halpert was named the Skyline Conference’s Coach of the Year.

Now in his 41st season, Coach Halpert stands as the winningest coach in Yeshiva University history. Coach Halpert also is the founder of BackDoor Hoops, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to elevating the basketball skills of Yeshiva elementary and high school players and coaches. His message of weaving a passion for athletics with a lifelong and unswerving commitment to Torah and Jewish tradition, is sure to both inspire and motivate the participants.

Coach Halpert will be joined by current Yeshiva U MACS stars Benjy Ritholz (Cooper Invitational All-Tournament Team 2009) and Dovie Hoffman.
