The Cooper Tournament kicked off today in grand fashion. The Fasman Yeshiva High School, ranked ninth in the tournament, went up against the eighth ranked Hillel Yeshiva High School HEAT. This was a true thriller.

Fasman Yeshiva put on a fantastic defensive preformance. Led by their point guard, Ari Silberstein, and lead scorer, Tzachi Kahn, Fasman Yeshiva used their speed, conditioning, and their ability to corner the offense to their great advantage. Perhaps the greatest attribute of Fasman Yeshiva’s defense was their communication. Not a second went by in which there was no talking.

However, Fasman Yeshiva was not so sharp behind the 3-point line, while The Hillel Yeshiva High School refused to miss 3 pointers. Zach Ashkenazi led the team with three from behind the arc. Hillel passed the ball around with conviction. Each pass was perfectly guided to the intended man.

In the end, it was Hillel’s great 3 point shooting and lead scorer, Edward Benjamin which guided them to their first win in the Cooper Invitational, winning by a score of 45-33. Fasman Yeshiva drops into Tier 2, while the Hillel Heat await the winner of the YULA vs. Westchester High School game.
