11-7-2015 | Fasman Yeshiva Breeze Past Akiva Pioneers, 59-22

In the last Saturday night game of the night, the Tier 2 matchup featured the #5 Fasman Yeshiva High School faced off against the #8 Akiva Pioneers. The tipoff went to Fasman Yeshiva to get things started. Right from the start it was clear that Fasman Yeshiva was the better team with players like Zev Lafer and Arik Tieke starting off strong. Fasman went on a 15-0 run finishing the quarter up 15-0.

In the 2nd quarter, Akiva finally scored, but they were petty far behind. Fasman controlled the game and wouldn’t let Akiva catch up. Younes was already in the double digits, giving Fasman a big boost. They finished the half up 32-14. Leading scorers included Michael Younes for Fasman with 11 points. Yoni Katz and Josh Kornblum both had 4 points for the Pioneers.

In the 3rd quarter, Fasman continued to extend the lead. They played good defense on Akiva, keeping them out of reach. Fasman continued to get to the line, knocking down free throws. Younes played like a beast down low, with help from Eli Greer, Ari Merzel, and Lafer. It became clear at this point that Akiva no longer had a chance. Former Memphian Asher Stein tried to help his team get back into it, but at the end of the third quarter, Akiva was down 50-19.

In the 4th quarter, Fasman kept their large lead and closed out the game. Akiva played a sloppy offense and a bad defense. Akiva didn’t throw in the towel until the last buzzer sounded, even when they were down by 30. The final score of the games was 59-22. The leading scorer for the Pioneers was Josh Kornblum with 9 points, and the leading scorer for Fasman was Michael Younes with 15 points.
