In a Tier I Consolation game on Sunday Morning for fifth place, the hometown Cooper Yeshiva Macs took on the Yeshiva High School Storm. The Storm took control early, with great shooting from forward Sammy Baum. The Macs managed to stay in reach initially with strong play from center Caleb Milobsky down low. Their deficiency in rebounding, however, plagued them again, and they found themselves in a double-digit hole as the first quarter came to a close.

In the second quarter, the Storm hit the Macs with a multi-faceted attack. Storm forward Elias Attias played solid down low, guard Jared Stern was draining, Ethan Lasko was facilitating and scoring, and Evan Jacoby tossed in some difficult buckets for the Storm. Meanwhile, the Macs struggled to convert on the offensive end, missing shots and committing turnovers. Any run they attempted was negated by their inability to get stops on defense. The score at the end of the half was 39-19, Storm. Lasko and Baum led the Storm with nine points apiece, and Gabe Itkowitz, Jeffrey Owen, and Milobsky all led the Macs with four points each.

In the third quarter, the Storm continued to punish the Macs on all cylinders, and the Macs resorted to a lot of fouling. The Storm continued to build on their lead as Jeffrey Owen sat in foul trouble for the Macs. In Owen’s absence, Itkowitz played solid for the Macs, but the over-20 point deficit was too much for the Macs to overcome.

As the fourth quarter rolled around, the game was already sealed. Jeffrey Owen played some nice ball for Cooper, but it was far too late. The final score was 68-49, Storm, who captured fifth place. Ethan Lasko led the Storm with 17 points, while Sammy Baum pitched in 13. Jeffrey Owen and Gabe Itkowitz led the Macs with 17 and 12 points, respectively.
